Music is Power

The day I first discovered my power was when a stranger said “hey man, you can really spit!” - that’s when I really found out I actually had a “special ability”. Freestyling is a known art in which you express what’s on your mind as opposed to following procedure or a formed layout. I believe that is my power.

Unfortunately, I lose my power when I'm not "in the mood" or "in the zone." By not being in the mood, I mean when I'm just hanging around with friends or busy with something else. I won't be able to just freestyle something relatively nice when I'm not in my zone. At parties though - I can get a bit lyrical!

Constant writing, debating and word-learning help me keep my freestyling ability. I believe that if you practice something long enough and really put in the effort to succeed, you will. I usually write a verse a night so, I guess you can say I keep my mind occupied when it comes to enhancing my abilities.

if i had known life was a race to be selfish

I am Jeffriel (Jeffrey iLL)

My name is Jeffriel Lichtenberg and I was born on May 2nd, in the year 1993. My parents are both from the Dominican Republic and migrated to the United States when they were 15 (mother) and 18 (father). Being born in Salem, Ma I was talked about as a warlock or wizard due to the allegations of the women of Salem being witches during the trials. My mother and father both lived in an apartment in Lynn, MA with my sister and I. All I remember from those days was how connected I was with my younger sibling. We would do everything from play fighting to sharing milk together. After many years of living together my mother and father split up. That was probably one of the most detrimental moments of my life. I had no idea why or how my father could just up and leave my mother, sister and I like that; no warning, no signs, no NOTHING. A few years later, my mother met a man. His name is Orlando and til this day, he is the reason I am who I am. I look up to him as the biggest role model, not because he has a job, money a car and food to put on the table for us when no one was there to help, but because he took the chance. He hoped for a better life for my sister and I and he was able to fulfill that destiny. Now, we live in Malden in a lovely apartment. I'm so grateful for him. 

Thanks to my step-father I was able to free my mind from being so closed in; he was always looking for new ways to do things or just figuring out how to do things in general. Taking after his foot-steps, I was able to conquer basketball, art, music and eventually everything I put my heart and soul into because when you never give up, you surely succeed. As a child, I'd always draw anime characters. Whether they were made up of my own imagination or I was sketching someone from a TV show. I was always sketching something. I'm also a used-to-be wanna-be NBA star! Starting in the 8th grade, everyday after school I would skip homework to go to the park and shoot jumpers and lay-up the ball until I could barely feel my hands. Challenge others in one-on-one games to 11 and when they beat me I'd say "up to 15!" just to get my game up. I stopped focusing on basketball when two of my friends told me they were starting to rap. That's when my whole life changed. I became a rapper.. I recorded verse after verse after verse even when people told me "yo, you should just give up man," I continued to strive for greatness. Today, I'm one of the greatest lyricists in my area! 

My dearest friend Marco would say I'm hard-headed, confident, afraid and humble all at the same time. I'm genuinely a good person who looks for ways to better the world simple step after simple step. My main goal is to change the way humans interact with each other and view films (more info later). My girlfriend would tell you that I'm caring, loyal, respectful and energetic. My previous bosses will tell you how much of a hard, efficient and credible worker I am. I'm not sure what else to say about myself without boasting so that should be enough!
