My Sterling Passion

My Sterling Passion

It all began in 2008; I was in the 7th grade, my buddy Brett in the 8th. He came up to me one day and asked me if I liked rap music and if I wanted to hear a song he wrote. And ever since then, it was history.

I fell in love with writing music in the 7th grade but it wasn't until the summer of my 9th grade going to 10th grade year that I took it seriously. My buddy Chin (who's in a rap group with me) let me borrow his mic because he found a studio he could go to. Eventually, though, I got my own mic. Anyway, my first  song was horrible. I did NOT expect to receive as much hate for the song that I actually got. It was a terrible moment in my career but, in reality, it was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. Because everyone doubted my craft and mocked my efforts it really made me deepen my vocabulary as well as strengthen my flow.

Don't get me wrong; I have plenty of other things I would love to do. For instance, I want to be the founder of the world's first 100% non-profit, NO-(not low)-cost industry. I'm not entirely sure what services I would be offering but most definitely the most important things to benefit human health (clothes, food, shelter, tooth brushes, appliances, etc). Another passion I have is for technology. I LOVE THE FUTURE. Steve Jobs is my God. Okay, sorry about that. As I was saying; I have three brilliant and revolutionary ideas that would really change the way some people interact with one another and their devices. All I have to say about that is; don't forget my name!

Although I have all these dreams and aspirations to help society evolve as a race, I also just really love making music. There's no greater feeling than writing a song and just continuously rapping the verses over and over and over again until you finally record it. Good thing for me, my mic is right in my room. Being famous and getting paid for making that music would just be out of this world. I would be able to connect to millions of people across the world and spread my message to all of them by simply doing the one thing I love. So yeah - if I could choose one thing to do for the rest of my life it would definitely have to be; creating music.

La Musica de Jeffrey iLL

Music is love
Love is the music
So when I think I'm in love
I'm just listening to music
Repetitive rhyme schemes, excessive rewinding
Trying to get the message
That the lesson's describing
Revising
I honor every rhythm,
The heavy hitting,
The Remy sippin'
Hip-hop is the one I should marry
I'll do it any instant
To be recognized for my second eyes
Is something that I just can't be missing
No - I can't resist it
Music has my heart on lock down;
I cherish every visit
I still love H.E.R
Guess that's just common
He told me 'Go' and 'Be' free
Who did?
I said, "just Common."

  1. Jeffriel,

Great post! I see that music and hip hop are your passion, as you've been describing it all semester. I like that dedication and consistency.

I also like that you have other ideas, such as this non-profit idea. What are you thinking, something along the lines of a Goodwill or Salvation Army - but better?

You seem like a very passionate person, and it's great that you've taken steps to advance your career in music.

I dig your poem this week, too. Great flow, cool lines.

I like the line: "to be recognized by my second eyes".

Glad to see you posting such quality work.
